Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO I GET TO GLOVER’S REEF RESEARCH STATION?

To get to the Station you can either take a boat from Belize City or from Sittee River, near the town of Dangriga. To get to Dangriga and the Sittee River Marina we recommend flying from Belize City to Dangriga on Tropic Air. Please contact the Operations Manager and we can help arrange your in-country travel. See our fees page for the current prices for travel to and from the island.

A supply run and staff changeover occurs every two weeks on Friday (weather permitting).  If there is space on this routine trip, we can carry a number of guests and passengers at the most economical rate.  Please contact the Operations Manager well in advance if you wish to plan your trip to coincide with shift change days.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS INCLEMENT WEATHER?

Your safety is our first priority on any boat trip. Whether you are crossing ‘the blue’;exploring the lagoon within the atoll; with our scheduled trip, or as a special charter, all trips are contingent on the weather. The final decision to postpone boat trips due to inclement weather falls on the captain and/or the Operations Manager. Please understand that any such decision,no matter how inconvenient, is based solely on your safety. You should contact the station 24-48 hours prior to travel to confirm weather conditions and timing.

CAN I RENT DIVE AND SNORKEL GEAR AT THE STATION?

GRRS provides tanks and weights only. As a diver you will need to bring all other scuba equipment with you: Fins, mask, snorkel, regulator, alternate air source, buoyancy control device (BCD), quick release weight belt or integrated weight system, dive computer or timing device & depth gauge, compass, dive knife or dives tools, whistle, and a surface marker buoy (SMB).
